Terms of Use

The rules for using Dossier

Last updated 9 October 2026

Plain words, in short: use Dossier honestly, keep your account to yourself, own your content, and know what you pay for. The full Terms are below.

1. About these Terms

Dossier is a resume builder run by ByteQ (“we”, “us”). These Terms of Use are an agreement between you and us. They apply when you visit the site, create an account or use any part of Dossier.

When you sign up you tick a box to say you have read and accept these Terms and our Privacy Notice. If you do not agree, please do not create an account or use Dossier.

2. Who can use Dossier

  • You must be 18 or older to create and use an account. To make a resume for someone under 18, their parent or lawful guardian creates the account, gives the consent in these Terms and the Privacy Notice for them, and uses or supervises the account. We do not knowingly let anyone under 18 open an account; if we learn that one did, we close it and delete its data.
  • Open one account for yourself only, with your own email address, and keep your password and sign-in codes private. You are responsible for what happens in your account.
  • Tell us straight away if you think someone else has used your account.

3. Your undertaking

By creating an account and each time you use Dossier, you undertake and confirm that:

  • the information you give us and put in your resumes is true, and you have the right to use it;
  • you will add other people's personal details (for example referees, managers or team members) only if they have agreed;
  • you will not upload, publish or share anything that: belongs to someone else and you have no right to; is obscene, pornographic, paedophilic or harmful to children; invades another person's privacy, or is insulting or harassing on the basis of gender, religion, caste or ethnicity; is defamatory, hateful or encourages money laundering or gambling; infringes a patent, trademark, copyright or other right; knowingly deceives or misleads about where a message comes from, or is patently false; impersonates another person; threatens the unity, integrity, defence, security or sovereignty of India, friendly relations with other countries or public order, or incites an offence; contains viruses or other harmful code; or breaks any law in force;
  • you will not pretend to be someone else, create accounts in another person's name, or create fake accounts (including to earn invite rewards);
  • you will not try to break, overload, copy or get around the security of Dossier, read other people's data, or collect data from it with automated tools;
  • you will not resell, rent or offer Dossier to others as your own service;
  • you will follow the law of India and of the place you use Dossier from;
  • you have read the Privacy Notice and consent to your personal data being used as it describes;
  • you are responsible for the resumes you download, publish or send to employers, and you will check them before you send them.

If you break this undertaking we may remove content, cancel invite rewards, or suspend or close your account (see “Suspension and closing an account”).

4. Your content

Everything you write or upload (your resumes, photos, profile and library) stays yours. You allow us to store it, process it and show it to you, and to show a resume publicly only when you publish its link, so that we can run Dossier for you. We do not sell it and do not use it for advertising.

You can change or delete your content at any time, and have your whole account deleted (see “Suspension and closing an account”).

5. Public links and “Contact me”

When you publish a resume, anyone with its link can see the published version until you take it offline. Think about which personal details (phone number, address, photo, signature) you want to show before you publish. Search engines are asked not to list public links, but anyone who has the link can pass it on.

  • The link shows the version you last published, not your later edits, until you choose “Update live”.
  • Taking a link offline hides it at once; publishing again brings back the same address. If you rename the address, the old one forwards to the new one.
  • Endorsements from people you invited to review your resume show on the link only after you approve them, and you can hide them again at any time.
  • On Light and Pro you can send a cover letter with the link. On Pro you can also hide your phone number and email address (a visitor can ask for them, and they are emailed to that visitor only if you approve), stop visitors downloading it, and see and show how many times it has been viewed. The cover letter is shown as it is saved at the time.
  • A QR code for the link is made in your browser. Anyone who scans a printed copy reaches the link while it is online.

If you switch on “Contact me”, visitors can send you a message through Dossier without seeing your email address. We pass these messages on but are not responsible for what visitors write. Please report misuse to the Grievance Officer.

6. What Dossier does, and does not promise

Dossier gives you tools, templates and guidance. The ATS check, keyword match and tips are estimates to help you improve a resume; employers use many different systems and people.

We do not promise that any resume will get you an interview, a job or a particular result. A template may look slightly different when an employer's software opens a downloaded file. Always check your resume before sending it.

7. Plans, prices and payment

  • Free costs nothing. Light and Pro are bought for one month or one year at the prices shown on the Pricing and Plan & billing pages.
  • What each plan includes is listed on the Pricing page at the time you buy. A feature we add later to a plan you hold is yours for the rest of that plan's time.
  • Prices are in Indian rupees and do not include GST. GST at the applicable rate (now 18%) is added at checkout and the full amount is shown before you pay. You get a tax invoice by email and under Plan & billing, with our GSTIN and the service code (SAC) of the service. Give your GSTIN at checkout if you want to claim input tax credit; it cannot be added to an invoice afterwards.
  • Payments are made through Razorpay. We never see or store your card, UPI or bank details.
  • A plan does not renew by itself. When its time ends your account moves to Free: paid features switch off, and resumes beyond the Free plan's limit (or that use a paid template) are locked, not deleted, until you buy a plan again or choose which resume to keep.
  • We may change prices for future purchases. A change never affects time you have already paid for.

8. Cancellations and refunds

  • If you were charged twice, or charged but your plan did not start, we refund the extra or failed payment in full. Send a request (Help & requests → “Payment or invoice”) with the payment reference; we start the refund within 7 working days of confirming it. A payment that your bank shows as failed is usually reversed by the bank or Razorpay by itself.
  • Because a plan gives you every paid feature as soon as you pay, other payments are not refundable once the plan has started, except as below or where the law requires a refund. There is no cancellation charge, because plans do not renew and there is nothing to cancel.
  • If a paid feature does not work as described and we cannot fix it within 15 days after you tell us, or Dossier is unavailable to you for more than 7 days in a row because of a fault on our side, we refund the unused part of your plan, counted by days.
  • Refunds go back to the original payment method through Razorpay. After we start a refund, your bank or card issuer usually shows it within 5 to 7 working days. With each refund we issue a GST credit note, which you can download under Plan & billing.
  • Please tell us about a payment problem as soon as you can. We look into every request, however late, but after 6 months we may not be able to trace a payment.

9. Invite programme

  • You get a personal invite link and invite code under Plan & billing. A friend counts for you when they create a new Dossier account through your link, with your code, or within 30 days of an invitation you sent them from Dossier, and then confirm their email address.
  • For each friend who counts, you get one free month: Pro if you are on Free, otherwise one more month of the plan you have.
  • The friend gets a free month of Pro too, once, when they confirm their email address, unless they already have a paid plan.
  • Only a new person counts. No month is given to either of you when the friend's address reaches the same inbox as yours or as another Dossier account (for example a Gmail address with dots or a +tag added), or when that address had a Dossier account before.
  • Free time from invites stops at 12 months in total, or one year after the day you registered, whichever comes first. The last reward may be part of a month.
  • Rewards are free plan time only. They have no cash value and cannot be exchanged, transferred or refunded.
  • Invite only people you know. Do not spam, buy or sell invites, or use fake, duplicate or your own extra accounts. You can send up to 10 email invitations a day, and the same address at most once a week. When you enter a friend's email address, you confirm that you may share it with us for this one invitation.
  • We may cancel rewards gained in breach of these rules, and we may change or end the programme at any time. Time already added to your plan stays.

10. Our software and templates

Dossier's software, design, templates, text and brand are owned by ByteQ, and you may use the templates to make and share your own resumes. You may not copy, sell or reuse the software or templates in any other way.

11. Suspension and closing an account

You can have your account deleted at any time: under Data & account choose “Delete account”, or, where that page shows “Request deletion”, send the request and we delete the account within 15 days and confirm it by email. We may suspend or close an account, or remove or disable content, if these Terms are broken, if the law requires it, or to protect other users or Dossier. Where it is reasonable we will tell you first and explain why.

  • A suspension is decided by a named administrator, who records the reason. While an account is suspended you cannot sign in, every session is ended and its public links are hidden. Nothing in it is deleted.
  • If you think a suspension is wrong, write to the Grievance Officer. You will be told the reason, and you can ask for your data to be sent to you while the account is suspended. If the suspension is lifted, everything comes back as it was, including the same links.
  • Paid time lost to a suspension that turns out to be our mistake is added back to your plan. Time lost because these Terms were broken is not refunded.

We remove or disable content when a court or an authorised government agency lawfully orders it, within the time the law sets (currently within 36 hours of the order), and we keep the related records as the law requires.

12. Availability and changes to Dossier

We work to keep Dossier available and your data safe, but we cannot promise it will always be available or free of errors. We may add, change or remove features. Keep your own copy (PDF or Word) of resumes you need.

13. Limits of our responsibility

As far as the law allows, we are not responsible for indirect losses (such as a lost job opportunity or lost income), or for losses caused by content you publish or by things outside our reasonable control. Our total responsibility to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have that the law does not allow us to limit.

You agree to make good any loss we suffer because of content you uploaded or a breach of these Terms by you.

14. Privacy

Our Privacy Notice explains what personal data we keep, why, for how long, and your rights under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, including how to withdraw consent. It is part of these Terms.

15. Changes to these Terms

If we change these Terms or the Privacy Notice in a way that matters, we will update the date above and ask you to read and accept the new version the next time you use Dossier. If you do not accept, you can download your data and have your account deleted. We also remind users of these Terms and the Privacy Notice at least once a year.

16. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of India. The courts at New Delhi have jurisdiction over any dispute, subject to any rights you have under consumer protection law.

17. Questions and grievances

Send a request through Help & requests (choose “Formal grievance”, or the matching type) or write to our Grievance Officer about these Terms, your account, content (including content you want removed) or a payment. Every request gets a ticket number and an automatic acknowledgement at once (and in any case within 24 hours); we resolve it within 15 days. A complaint about content that exposes someone's private area, shows them in a sexual act, or impersonates them is acted on within 24 hours.

The Grievance Officer's name and contact details are shown at the end of these Terms and in the Privacy Notice. If you are not satisfied with the answer, you may go to the Data Protection Board of India (for personal data), the consumer commission or the National Consumer Helpline (1915 or consumerhelpline.gov.in) for a purchase, or the Grievance Appellate Committee under the IT Rules for a decision about content.
